Landmaps Ltd was set up in 1997 by Archie Stewart to service the farming industry by providing accurate areas for IACS and soil sampling for precision farming. The business soon expanded into the provision of maps for estate management, golf course management, property audits and maps for selling property.
Over the last 10 years, as well as farm, golf course and property management maps, a variety of bespoke maps have been created including:
- Croft maps showing the division of family ownership and acreage
- Forestry maps presenting the ages of plantations to help with management
- Living maps: a 5-acre saltire was mapped and seeded underneath the flight path at Edinburgh airport
- Volumetric maps giving the ‘before and after’ view of quarries and fisheries to estimate revenues and plan stocking levels respectively.
- Planning permission plots have been mapped for including with the application documents.
- Habitat maps providing an inventory of trees, or set-aside areas, or gorse encroachment
- Erosion maps demonstrating loss of land to the sea or by river migration over time.
- Ambitious gardening projects have been put down accurately on paper to help plan further landscaping.
- Caravan sites have been plotted providing a guide for emergency service access and health and safety planning. Each holidaymaker gets a copy so they can quickly see caravan numbers, roads and services.
- Farm walks showing routes for tourists have been created for holiday cottage businesses
