Enhancing biodiversity
Ratho Park Golf Club use maps for a variety of tasks. In the clubhouse, members can check the map on the board. Tom Murray, the Course Manager, uses the map for work planning on the golf course. The map is kept up to date to take into account new buildings and the changing landscape of the course. Most recently, the map has been used to highlight efforts to enhance biodiversity on the course.
The club is keen to make the most of their grounds, and to encourage nature. Bat boxes were installed some years ago. Now the committee have decided to put up bird boxes to increase the biodiversity in the area by making it easier for birds to find a suitable place to nest. Members can sponsor birdboxes, and so far, 20 people have signed up for this. The map below shows how the peripheral area of the course has been divided into zones to keep track of where each box is situated. The map will be updated soon to show the types of nesting box and their locations.
